Dan Dian Senior Living Community

One of the most recognizable building forms in Beijing is the Siheyuan. These unique courtyard residences are synonymous with family and community, nestled in their distinct urban setting. Not only are the 4 sides of the home organized around a shared courtyard but many interlocking structures form a network of siheyuan linked by hutong, an ancient Beijing alley, which form the neighborhood fabric of Beijing. Our design proposal celebrates this proud symbol of community by reinterpreting it as a vertical housing model that maintains its emphasis on shared living and experience.
