The Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport Terminal facility is composed of 120,000 GSF on two levels. In response to both the inflexible/unexpandable constraints and the very bland appearance of the original, this new complex is designed to accommodate passenger, airline, and concession operations with ultimate efficiency at opening day and beyond through easily adaptable alterations and expansions, and to do so in a dynamic setting indicative to the area and function served.
The facility is zoned vertically with all public activities on the upper level. All ramp space below is strictly airport/airline related. Besides the obvious security and flexibility advantages this scenario presents, the raising of the building twelve feet enhances its visual prominence from the approach roadway in the initial phase and more importantly maintains such when load demands require a structured level of parking above the existing surface lot.
