Comprised of 18,000 gross square feet on two levels, the Manassas Regional Airport Terminal serves as a new home base for numerous functions previously scattered throughout the airfield. Serving one of the busiest general aviation operations on the east coat (due to its proximity to Washington, DC and the international corporations based in the Manassas area) the new terminal is designed to accommodate projected growth for the next twenty years and beyond.
The new facility is positioned central to the single runway and adjacent to an existing parking field. A landscaped entry/landside plaza has been inserted into the existing asphalt to soften the visual approach.
The two-story Main Lobby acts as the hub to the entire complex. All major public spaces are on the First Level with secondary spaces overlooking this volume from the Second Level. The final design resolves the image conflict of combining the high technology of modern aircraft with the client’s desire to emulate Historic Olde Town Manassas as the gateway to corporate visitors and tourists. The landside approach, with its textured masonry walls with deeply recessed punched windows and precast detailing recalls the flavor of Manassas' past.
