The Lynchburg Regional Airport Terminal is comprised of two levels, replacing an outdated/unexpandable facility on the opposite end of the airfield. Designed to be internally flexible and externally expandable, this facility can accommodate Lynchburg's air transportation needs well into the 21st century.
Entering the building on the second level has obvious advantages in that jet users are not required to negotiate any vertical transition but board directly onto the aircraft via loading bridges at this level. Commuter travelers pass through the single security screening point and descend onto a ramp level hold room via stairs, escalators, and elevator. Incorporating a simple "T" configuration, resulting in a counter clockwise flow of passengers, all major components are simply organized and easily recognizable. And as ticketing, baggage claim, and the hold rooms command exterior positions, all are easily expandable.
