Odell Associates was selected as the architect & team leader for a new replacement terminal facility in Bakersfield, California.
The complex features five (5) second level gates and three (3) ramp level gates to provide ultimate flexibility for all airlines served. Built on a slight hill, public access is at the second level, housing all ticketing, baggage, lobby and concession areas. Besides a ramp level holdroom, the lower area is reserved for service and airline support. Administration is located on the top floor for both airside views and ease of expansion to the public spaces below.
With the design 90% complete just prior to September 11, modifications were made prior to bidding to accommodate TSA’s new security directives (and those yet to be determined). The ticketing area can accommodate trace detection/bomb detection either in the lobby or as an in-line baggage scenario, depending upon the final directive. Concessions, too, are adaptable to either side of the security line. Future growth and interior modifications due to evolving regulations are easily accommodated.
