Faced with the problems associated with operating dispersed pediatric specialty clinics, the owner elected to consolidate them into 18,000 SF within an existing Medical Office Building connected to an Outpatient Surgical Center. This project brought ten specialty clinics together in order to achieve the following six key goals:
1. Centralize registration, medical records and accounting
2. Present a child-focused environment
3. Utilize diagnostic tools existing in the Outpatient Surgery Center
4. Co-locate appropriate specialty clinics
5. Separate patient/family areas from staff areas
6. Create positive visual distractions through the use of color and design
The design team responded to all these goals by creating an exciting yet functional plan capturing and enhancing the symmetrical geometry of the existing Medical Office Building. Shape and color are first used at the central reception desk to orient parents to the medical practice. The transaction counter becomes a color-coded device to guide parents to the correct administrative staff and then to one of four similarly colored waiting areas/nurse stations.
