This Federal Medical Center is a 560,000 square foot hospital with 513 beds. It is co-located within the Federal Correctional Institute (FCI) at Butner, North Carolina and serves as a prototype for future regional medical centers of the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
The hospital is dedicated to providing acute medical, surgical and psychiatric services for both male and female offenders and is capable of handling patients of all security levels. This state of the art facility features exterior courtyards that allow natural light to circulate throughout the facility and a 250-person housing unit is provided for the support staff.
